Al Roker and his family are grieving a loved one.

Alice Bell, the beloved first wife of Today host and mother of Courtney Roker Laga, died at 77.

On February 11, Courtney announced this tragic news on social media.

Courtney called her “my mother, my heart, and the most loving grandmother to Sky,” a touching tribute. I was with her at her dying breath and will always love her.”

Courtney uploaded heartwarming photos of her mother with the announcement. They included two cherished framed photos of young Courtney with Alice and beautiful shots of Alice holding Sky, Courtney’s baby daughter.

The subsequent photos showed Alice with oxygen support, showing her strength and love.

Former Today co-host Tamron Hall noted, “Sending our love.”

The family has not disclosed Alice’s cause of death, but E! News stated that Al Roker was absent from Today on February 11.

Al and Alice adopted Courtney in 1987 during their 1984–1994 marriage. With Deborah Roberts, Al has two more children, Leila, 26, and Nicholas, 22.

Alice tried to stay out of the spotlight, but Courtney’s 2022 emotional letter honoring her influential mother figures showed her presence.

Courtney thanked her mother on Instagram: “Happy Mother’s Day to the three most important women in my life. My mother Alice, stepmother Deborah, and mother-in-law Barbara.”

American television icon Al Roker was a weathercaster, journalist, author, and television personality. Born August 20, 1954, in Queens, New York, Al’s journey began. He earned a communications degree from SUNY Oswego after switching from cartooning to radio. In 1978, NBC hired him after his 1970s weather anchor career took off.

Roker became famous in 1996 when he became Today’s full-time weather anchor. His lively demeanor, thorough weather coverage, and audience connection made him a morning TV favorite. His versatility shines through in hosting specials, covering major events, and conducting noteworthy interviews beyond forecasts.

Al Roker excels beyond broadcasting. He writes memoirs, cookbooks, and fiction, demonstrating his narrative skills. He also represents generosity and purpose through his charitable and advocacy work.
