Brandon’s family didn’t waste any time.

PART 2 Brandon’s family didn’t waste any time.

Brandon’s family didn’t waste any time.

That same evening, after discovering the empty bedroom and the wedding ring on the table, they went straight for the money.

The $650,000 wedding gift — $450,000 from Brandon’s side and $200,000 from mine — had been deposited into a joint account the day before the wedding. Brandon was certain the money was safely his now.

He was wrong.

When he tried to log into the account from his phone, the screen showed something that made him drop his beer bottle on the floor.

Account Access Denied.

Brenda pushed him aside and tried her own phone. Same result.

Patrick, who rarely spoke, finally stood up from the couch.

“What the hell is going on?”

They called the bank. After thirty minutes on hold, a polite customer service representative delivered the news:

“The account was closed this morning at 11:47 a.m. The entire balance — $650,000 — was transferred to a private trust account under Melanie’s name only. The transfer was authorized by the primary account holder.”

Brandon slammed his fist on the table.

“That bitch! She stole our money!”

Brenda’s face turned red with rage.

“She thinks she can humiliate us like this? Call her parents. Tell them their daughter is a thief.”

But when Brandon called my father, the response was ice-cold:

“The money was always hers. We made that very clear before the wedding. If your son had treated my daughter with basic human respect, perhaps things would be different. Do not contact us again.”
