Democrats are in a frenzy after a Fort Bend County, Texas, judge was charged with multiple counts of money laundering, which led the judge’s party to call for him to resign after he turned himself in and was promptly released after posting his $10,000 bail.
For context, Judge KP George of Fort Ben County, Texas, was arrested on April 4, 2025, and was charged with two counts of money laundering, a third-degree felony. George’s charges stem from his alleged use of unethical practices to fund his own campaign, but the judge has denied that he did anything wrong.
In a statement shared with the press, Judge George asserted that the Fort Bend County District Attorney had a political vendetta against him and was “weaponizing” his power, saying, “Allegations and accusations are being made without full context or disclosure of the facts — deliberately manipulating the narrative to tarnish my reputation and character.”
Continuing his statement, Judge George said that he has “always operated with integrity and transparency,” adding, “There is nothing illegal about loaning personal funds to my own campaign and later repaying that loan. This is a standard and lawful practice.”
Concluding his defense of his actions, Judge George said that he believed that “the truth will prevail,” and added, “In the meantime, I remain committed to serving and fighting for the people of Fort Bend County with the same passion and dedication as always.” In addition, Judge George also called the investigation a “political witch hunt.”
After Judge George argued that he had done nothing wrong, prominent Fort Bend County Democrats denounced him, including local party Chair Fred Taylor. Taylor told the press, “I am very disappointed in Judge George and his actions have disappointed us and showed (sic) that he has not used good judgment in the office that he holds.”
Furthermore, Taylor told the press that he believed that Judge George “should step down” following his release when his $10,000 bail was posted. Taylor continued, “I think he should step down because he has shown that he does not have the integrity to hold that office.” He added, “This county judge has shown his character of always wanting to be the victim, which is what got him into trouble in the first place, and now [he is] trying to play the victim by blaming.”
In addition, a prosecutor from the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office also spoke out against George, saying that the investigation into the judge’s practices had been thorough. The prosecutor told the press, “The District Attorney’s Office has continuously stated that the investigation was ongoing, and that investigation has now led to two 3rd-degree felony indictments for Money Laundering, which were made public today.”
