This cozy, classic dish is perfect for chilly days. Fluffy mashed potatoes serve as the base for a savory ground beef gravy, creating a hearty meal that’s quick to prepare and easy to adjust to your taste.

Mashed Potatoes with Savory Ground Beef Gravy

Ingredients

Mashed Potatoes:

  • Potatoes – 2 lb, peeled and quartered
  • Milk – 1 1/2 cups
  • Butter – 1/4 cup
  • Salt and pepper – to taste

Ground Beef Gravy:

  • Ground beef – 1 lb
  • Onion – 1 medium, chopped
  • Garlic – 2 cloves, minced
  • All-purpose flour – 2 tbsp
  • Beef broth – 1/4 cup
  • Curry powder – 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Salt and pepper – to taste
  • Frozen peas and carrots – 1 cup (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the potatoes: Boil potatoes in salted water until tender. Drain and mash with milk, butter, salt, and pepper until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Cook the beef: In a skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat. Add onions and garlic and cook until softened.
  3. Make the gravy: Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir for a minute. Gradually pour in beef broth while stirring, cooking until thickened. Season with salt, pepper, and curry powder if desired.
  4. Add vegetables (optional): Stir in frozen peas and carrots and cook until heated through.
  5. Serve: Spoon the hot beef gravy over a bed of mashed potatoes and enjoy a comforting, hearty meal.
