My ex-husband Leo unexpectedly requested me to spend the weekend with our daughter Lily, who is five years old. I was hesitant to accept his request.
After a number of years of not being able to celebrate her birthday and making empty promises, he was hardly ever more than a name on the periphery of her life.
But this time, he came off as different; he was gentle and earnest in his delivery.
