A prominent Texas Republican was nearly killed in a horrific home invasion, which led to the tragic death of her husband. Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell, who served as the first black mayor of her city, is still fighting for her life after her grandson ambushed her in a callous knife attack.
For context, Bobbie Mitchell was a longtime Republican and civil servant who served in several essential roles in Denton, TX. As both a county commissioner and mayor, the Republican is known for her charitable contributions, community leadership, and large family.
In any case, Local journalist Ashley Moss reported on the case in a series of April 21, 2025, posts to X. She said, “Lewisville Police have identified a suspect in an early morning attack that left Denton County Commissioner Bobbie Mitchell injured and her husband dead. The couple’s grandson has been arrested and charged with murder and aggravated assault.”
Adding additional context, she explained how the authorities apprehended the suspect at the scene of the crime. She said, “Police identified the suspect as 23-year-old Mitchell Reinacher, the couple’s grandson. They said he was still at the scene of the incident, and officers arrested him without incident.”
Following up, Moss posted an update from Mitchell’s family, which informed the public about her condition. The statement read, “Our precious mother is on the road to a full recovery. We are so very grateful for all the calls, texts, social media posts, news stories, flowers, notes, and so much more. And we appreciate those who have checked in on us.”
Concluding their remarks, the family said, “We humbly ask that all of you understand this is a process and one that will take some time as we navigate this situation. We completely understand everyone’s desire to see and visit our mother, but currently, we are limiting visitors to family. Again, thank you so very much. We are beyond blessed by all of you.”

A longtime Denton County official is in critical condition following a violent kn*fe attack in her Lewisville, Texas, home that also claimed the life of her husband. Bobbie Mitchell, a Republican county commissioner, was seriously injured during the early morning ass*ult on Monday. Her husband, Fred Mitchell, tragically d*ed at the scene.”

In the comments under his post, social media users expressed their anger at the senseless violence. One such comment read, “This is tragic 😥 I pray it’s not a violent gang member that people fight so hard to keep in our country! May God bring healing and comfort in Jesus name amen 🙏” Another reply added, “Omg this is so horrible and sick. I’m so sorry about her husband. I’m sorry for what she is and will be going through. Such evil in this world.” One of the responses simply said, “RIP Fred Mitchell. No one expects a grandchild to kill you. I hope that Bobbi Mitchell survives although the burden of grief & family pain is incalculable.”
