Kathleen Turner rose to fame as a major sex symbol in the early 1980s. Over the years, her appearance has changed significantly, but she remains a prominent figure in Hollywood.

Throughout her career, Turner starred in numerous films alongside renowned actors like Steve Martin, Michael Douglas, and Jack Nicholson. However, her time in the spotlight gradually diminished. In 1994, Turner revealed she was battling an autoimmune condition that caused severe pain and fevers, impacting her ability to work.

This health challenge affected her standing in the entertainment industry, yet she continued to earn accolades for her performances, proving that success in show business isn’t solely about looks or fame. Diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in the early 1990s, Turner faced a bleak prognosis, with doctors warning she might soon rely on a wheelchair due to joint inflammation.

Amid these struggles, rumors spread that she had turned to heavy drinking to cope with her pain. In a 2009 essay, Turner candidly shared her battle with the illness, describing how her focus on appearance faded as she grappled with the basic challenge of walking without pain.

Her altered appearance was a side effect of the medications she needed, fueling public speculation about addiction. Despite enduring harsh criticism, Turner chose to remain silent about the true cause of her transformation.

Through determination and a commitment to daily gymnastics and Pilates, Turner overcame the limitations of rheumatoid arthritis. Though her marriage to Jay Weiss ended in 2007 after 23 years, she continues to appear in film and theater, albeit less frequently than during her prime.

Turner’s journey reminds us of the importance of perseverance and taking control of our health. Share her story to raise awareness about how exercise can improve lives.
