PART 2 — THE PENTHOUSE

Two weeks later, I received a call from an unknown number.

“Come to my penthouse tomorrow at 10 a.m. I need to tell you the truth.”

I almost didn’t go.

But something in his voice made me show up.

The penthouse was on the top floor of the tallest building in Santa Fe. When I stepped inside, Alejandro was waiting for me. He looked different — not the cold, powerful man from the hotel, but someone carrying the weight of the world.

He poured me a glass of water with trembling hands.

Then he spoke:

“Isabella… I have been looking for you for six years.”

I frowned. “What?”

He walked to his desk and took out an old photo.

It was me — six years younger, smiling at a beach in Acapulco.

Next to me was a man I barely remembered.

A man I had spent one passionate night with during a trip I took after graduating.

A man who disappeared the next morning.

“That night six years ago,” Alejandro said, voice hoarse, “I wasn’t supposed to be there. I was using a fake name. I was running from my own life. When I woke up, I left without saying goodbye. I thought it was just one night.”

He looked at me with tears in his eyes.

“But nine months later, you gave birth to Camila.”

The floor felt like it disappeared beneath my feet.

“No…” I whispered.

Alejandro stepped closer.

“Camila is my daughter, Isabella.”

I stumbled backward.

“All this time, I’ve been searching for you. When you walked into my suite that night, I recognized you immediately. I recognized her face in yours. I knew she was mine.”

I felt like I was going to be sick.

“So you paid me… like a prostitute… to sleep with the mother of your own child?”

Alejandro’s voice broke.

“I was desperate. I didn’t know how to tell you the truth. I was afraid you would run away if you knew who I was. I thought if I helped you first, maybe you would listen to me later.”

He fell to his knees in front of me.

“I’m sorry, Isabella. I’m so sorry for what I did. But I swear on my life — I never meant to hurt you. I just wanted to save our daughter… and find my way back to both of you.”

PART 3 — THE CHOICE

I didn’t speak for almost ten minutes.

I just cried.

For the girl who had to sell her body to save her child.

For the man who had been searching for us for years.

For the cruel, twisted way fate had brought us back together.

Alejandro stayed on his knees, head bowed.

“I don’t expect you to forgive me,” he said. “But Camila is my blood. Let me be her father. Let me take care of both of you. No conditions. No more deals. Just… let me make this right.”

I looked at him — this powerful, broken man who had once been a stranger, then a nightmare, and now… the father of my child.

I thought about Camila’s smile.

About how she asked about her daddy sometimes.

About how tired I was of carrying everything alone.

I took a deep breath.

“I will never forget what you did that night,” I said quietly. “But I also know what it feels like to be desperate to save your child.”

I reached out and touched his shoulder.

“We can try. But not for me. For Camila. She deserves to know her father.”

Alejandro broke down crying, holding onto my hand like it was salvation.

That day, everything changed.

Alejandro transferred everything Camila needed — the best doctors, the best treatment, a new home.

But more importantly, he started showing up every single day.

Slowly, painfully, we began to build something new.

Not from romance.

But from truth.

From guilt.

From love for the little girl who almost died.

And sometimes, when Camila falls asleep between us, holding both our hands, I look at Alejandro and think:

We paid the highest price.

But maybe… just maybe… we found something worth it.
